Margot Robbie was forced to tone down her Australian accent when she was in Neighbours

How can someone be *too* Australian for Neighbours?

EARLIER ON TODAY, Margot Robbie appeared on ITV’s This Morning and was as charming as ever.

The 28-year-old actress was chatting about her new thriller ‘Terminal’ and ended up in a discussion with Phillip and Holly about her native Australian accent. Phillip said that recently, Mike Myers had strongly expressed his disbelief at the strength of Margot’s accent.

Phillip then pointed out that “a dialect coach wanted to make [Margot] sound less Australian in Neighbours.” Holly asked if that was really true, and Margot was quite amused.

That is true. My Australian accent was too strong, even for Neighbours. They had to soften it a little bit. I think the accent gets a little strong, but yeah, they didn’t like it.

Margot then spoke about her struggle to pronounce the word ‘home’ in any non-Aussie accent. Just as well she didn’t work on Home and Away, so.

Margot said that although her accent has been diluted after a few years living in the UK and the US, it always comes right back when she’s on the phone to someone from back home.
